The etymological origin of the word ”landscape“ suggests that it refers not to an ahistorical natural state but rather to a constantly changing, manufactured space. Landscapes are the product and arena of labor and exchange, their form governed by human and non-human forces.
The essays in this book draw on specific case studies to determine the actors, interests, and needs that landscapes are informed by. They thus explore landscape as a space in which knowledge and action can be understood and moulded in the Anthropocene.
