[Equality for Women in the Parish Office. The Path to Spiritual and Legal Equality for Female Theologians in Hessen and Nassau 1918 to 1971]
This study, based primarily on sources from the central archive of the Church in Hessen and Nassau (EKHN), examines the history of women's ordination and legal equality in the EKHN and its predecessor churches based on the legal changes in church service law. The presentation begins with the first discussions about a degree for theology students in 1918 and ends with complete formal equality through the introduction of a common service law for pastors in 1970/71. As part of the review of the practical implementation of the laws, the volume also offers biographies of the vicars of the 1950s. This creates a well-founded picture of the EKHN's self-postulated pioneering role.
