Der Band würdigt auch die Wiederentdeckung der evangelischen Aszetik durch den Erlanger Pastoraltheologen Manfred Seitz (1928–2017) als Mitbegründer des Neuendettelsauer Instituts und stellt die bisherige Arbeit des Instituts in Forschung und Lehre vor.

Protestant ascetical theology is the sub-discipline of academic practical theology that deals with the shape of the personally lived faith. The volume with contributions from the work of the Institute for Protestant Ascetical Theology, founded in 2007 at the Augustana-Hochschule Neuendettelsau, unfolds the program of Protestant ascetical theology. Basic contents, methods and questions of a spiritual life in a Protestant perspective are presented in an exemplary manner and are located in the discourses of theology. In this way, insight is provided into the scientific foundations for the reflection of spiritual experience in the various forms of piety.
The volume also pays tribute to the rediscovery of Protestant ascetical theology by the Erlangen pastoral theologian Manfred Seitz (1928-2017) as co-founder of the Neuendettelsau Institute and presents the Institute's previous work in research and teaching.
