The aim of this book is to reconstruct the history and the religious life in Phrygia from the Bronze Age up to the Late Antiquity period. The documentary [archaeological evidence, inscriptions, coins e.g.] and literary sources show that sacred ideas and rituals, which already existed in the Bronze Age, have continued to exist as a substrate over the centuries until the spread of Christianity. Since various people, Anatolians, Greeks, Iranians, Jews and Romans, lived together with their own religions in Phrygia over the centuries, this region is an ideal research field to study the syncretism and the contact among religious communities.
