Martina Böhm untersucht alle relevanten Texte und Zeugnisse zur Geschichte Samariens und der Samaritaner und ihrer materiellen Kultur bis zum Ende des 1. Jahrhunderts n. Chr. Ihre Auswertungen ermöglichen zum einen eine tragfähige Bestimmung des Verhältnisses von Juden und Samaritanern in neutestamentlicher Zeit, zum anderen läßt sich dadurch der Assoziationshorizont einer Geschichte wie der vom Barmherzigen Samariter für die ersten Adressaten besser nachvollziehen. Somit kann die Geschichte Samariens und seiner Bevölkerung von alttestamentlicher Zeit bis zum Ende des 1. Jahrhunderts n. Chr. verfolgt werden. Dies gilt auch für die in den vorhandenen Texten gespiegelten Beziehungen, Konflikten und Interdependenzen zwischen der jüdischen Bevölkerung und der Samariens, ohne deren Kenntnis ein religionshistorisch angemessenes Verständnis der lukanischen Samarientexte nicht möglich ist.
Martina Böhm wendet die bisher gewonnenen Ergebnisse auch auf die Samarien- und Samaritaitexte im Lukasevangelium und der Apostelgeschichte an. Hier ergeben sich sowohl neue Interpretationsmöglichkeiten für Texte wie den Barmherzigen Samariter oder die Heilung der zehn Aussätzigen, als auch Hinweise auf die Gesamtkonzeption des Doppelwerkes. Außerdem wird ein verändertes Bild von der lukanischen Kenntnis der geographischen und soziokulturellen Gegebenheiten Palästinas deutlich.

Focusing on relevant texts and testimony, Martina Böhm begins by examining the history of Samaria and its population from the Old Testament period up to the end of the first century AD. She deals with the relationships, conflicts and interdependences between the Jewish population and that of Samaria as they are reflected in the texts. Without a knowledge of these, it is impossible to attain an adequate understanding of the Samarian texts in Luke from a religious and historical perspective. Following this, the author applies the results she has obtained up to this point to the texts on Samaria and the Samaritans in Luke and in Acts. This results not only in new interpretation possibilities for texts such as the Good Samaritan but also in references to the overall conception of the double work. It also shows a clearly altered picture of Luke's knowledge of the geographical and socio-cultural conditions in Palestine.
