After M. Mallowan's excavations between 1935 and 1937, a joint expedition resumed the exploration of the site of Chagar Bazar in Syria in 1999. This first excavation report contains the presentation of the first prehistoric soundings done between 1999 and 2001. Following the results obtained in these soundings, a new sequence of the Halaf period in the Syrian Jezireh is proposed.
